It is fun to hold a party in your house. All your friends and family gather to celebrate, eat and generally have a good time. Once the party has ended, however, you may notice that your guests have left stains on your hardwood floor. While throwing house parties can be a delightful experience, cleaning up after is a chore.
How should you proceed in cleaning your floor? Handy Sanders recommends using hot (but not boiling) water mixed with methylated spirits solution. The ratio of the water to the solution should be 4:1. If this method does not work on tougher stains, you can opt to use steel wool, bleach or vinegar as an alternative.
Steel Wool Does the Job
Guests who wear heels can leave unwanted marks on your floor. To remove them, apply floor wax on the area and scrub it using a fine steel wool. This method is also effective in removing water marks, white stains and dark stains.
Using Bleach or Vinegar to Eradicate Tough Stains
Sometimes, steel wool may not be enough to eliminate tough stains. If you have stubborn stains, applying bleach or vinegar should do the trick. Pour either bleach or vinegar to the tough stain and let it sit for an hour. Rinse the area with a damp cloth afterward.
After Cleaning Comes Restoring
These methods will clean your floor, but it cannot bring back that shine and lustre it previously had. If your floor still looks dull, look for providers of floor sanding services. They can restore the sheen and protect your floor from tough stains in the future. With that in mind, you will not have to worry too much about your guests leaving marks on your floor.
It is always nice to have a plan when throwing a party, especially about cleaning after your guests. You cannot always expect everyone to not spill a drink here or drop hors d’oeuvres there, so it is good to know what to do about their mess.
