Survey: More Than One-Third of Americans are Obese

With professional supervision, individuals would better understand their situation, and this can then lead to maintaining their weight. It would be a shame to lose the fat but recover it and add more pounds after the medically assisted dieting.

Growing Fatter Population

One of the most alarming survey results in recent years was from the CDC, which reported that more than a third of the U.S. population are obese. The study also stated that in 2008, the number was $147 billion. The report broke down the data even farther. It showed that non-Hispanic blacks have the highest obesity rate of 48.1%, with Hispanics trailing behind at 42.5%. Non-Hispanic whites had 34.5% and non-Hispanic Asians have a low 11.7% incidence of obesity.


The above information was reported and the causes of the disparity between races are still being studied. However, some information can be gleaned from the data with a significant certainty. One correlation that was underlined by the study is the connection between education, income, gender, and obesity. Data shows that women from higher income households have a lower rate of obesity compared to women from the low-income brackets.

In addition, there’s no relationship between the level of education and obesity in men. This is not the case with women, however, as college-educated women have a lower incidence of obesity compared to women who have a lower education level.

Of similar importance is the recent report that obesity in children increased by a third between 2000 and 2016. Today, 20% of young Americans are obese. Exercise programs in schools have tried to keep the percentage from increasing further, but they offer inconsistent results.

Obesity is becoming an epidemic in the U.S. and it’s necessary to stay active and have a proper diet to avoid obesity.
